For four delicious sauces from KÜHNE, director and photographer Jonathan HEYER c/o UPFRONT captured the perfect moment of culinary delight. Creation came from Philipp und Keuntje GmbH, who also took care of post production in-house.
Photographer TIAN STÖHR c/o UPFRONT accompanied the nonprofit organization SEAWATCH during their reconnaissance flights over the Central Mediterranean from Greece. “I would like to not have to be here.” A sentence often heard by Tian during this time.
Sea-Watch was founded as a civilian sea rescue organization in response to the failures of the EU and its Member States. According to official figures, over 21,000 people have died attempting to cross the Mediterranean since 2014. To find safety in Europe and claim their right to a fair asylum process, people see themselves forced to cross the Mediterranean in boats that are not seaworthy. Sea-Watch demands safe and legal entry routes as well as freedom of movement for all. No one should have to die trying to cross a border.
With the symbol WELCOMING OUT, people can make their open and accepting attitude towards the LGBTIQ+ community visible – showing that their presence is a safe space and no one will be excluded because of their sexual orientation.
The campaign was developed by the agency CarlNann with CD Patrik Hartmann and was awarded Bronze at the Ukrainian Creative Stories. We present the photos by Philipp RATHMER c/o UPDATE here on GoSee.
Plus, Philipp RATHMER c/o UPFRONT photographed the cover story for DIE STILISTEN at the zoological garden Tierpark Hagenbeck.
Matthew JOSEPH c/o UPFRONT accompanied members of BIKELIFE and got to know a unique community, for whom acceptance, belonging, camaraderie, and the daily grind are of the greatest importance.
Matthew : “This project comprises still images and interviews from six members of the cycling subculture community, known as BikeLife. Shot across New York and Baltimore, I wanted to dive beneath the surface of this apparent anti-social movement to tell the real stories of those on the front line. What is revealed is a lifestyle of acceptance, belonging, camaraderie and hard graft. Up-skilling themselves to a point of providing a way out and forward from their starting point in life; careers are being formed.
The public doesn’t seem to have much time for BikeLife – and, perhaps, there are many instances and incidents to explain why. However, beneath the pack-mentality front, the tricks, stunts and Insta-egos, these are people from every walk of life simply finding their own tribe and – perhaps, a potential career path. If nothing else, BikeLife provides a place to socialize and belong, utilizing the ultimate class-leveling freedom of two wheels.
Like the surf and skate cultures of decades gone by, BikeLife is in need of its own cult heroes to rise to a level of commercial success, cementing its acceptance among broader society. I am left inspired by my experience, with a smile on my face and my love of cycling deepened… wondering whether Noel, Emmanuel, Worm, Curly, Daetwon or Maine could be just that?”
