Die beliebte Uhrenmarke Ingersoll wurde im Jahr 1892 von den Brüdern Robert und Charles Ingersoll in Amerika gegründet. Sie entwickelten und verfolgten einen ehrgeizigen Plan: der breiten Öffentlichkeit Ingersoll-Uhren zu einem erschwinglichen Preis anzubieten und dabei echte Qualität und Glaubwürdigkeit zu wahren. Zunächst wurde jede Uhr von Hand hergestellt, aber 1892 gelang es Ingersoll dank Henry Ford, eine Produktionslinie für Taschenuhren und Armbanduhren zu entwickeln. Die sogenannte „Dollar Watch“ war geboren und so beliebt, dass über eine Million verkauft wurden. Heute werden die Uhren in Asien produziert.
