This year once again more than 500 participants from well-known film and TV productions as well as from the agency and media branch came to the event and were surprised by Director Ole Peters with a spectacular 180° projection in a canvas dome. With this, the creative concept picked up the new competition category "Best Of Digital Content" visually and gave the audience the feeling of being right in the middle of the film. TV moderator Susanne Reimann hosted throughout the event. Hamburg poetry slammer David Friedrich was invited as a show act.
A special focus this year was on the subject talent promotion and young talents in advertising film. The Best Young Advertising Film was the celebrated spot "Dear Brother" for Johnny Walker by Dorian Lebherz and Daniel Titz from the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. During the awards ceremonies, the winner of the Sponsorship Award of the German Advertising Film Academy (DWA) for the best, not yet realized, film idea was announced and honored. Simon Glass had convinced the expert jury early that day in a live pitch with his concept "All I Meat". Besides 20,000 Euro to realize the project, and professional support from the members of the academy, he can be very pleased about the positioning of his spot in selected movie theaters by the movie merchandiser Werbeweischer, with a media value of 15,000 euros. Erik Ström, who had won the DWA Sponsorship Award 2015 for his concept "Killing the Tire Swing", presented the finished spot for the first time on the big screen. In addition, the DWA speed recruiting event had its premiere, during which young talents of various German high schools got the chance to present their works to well-known producers.
At the after show party following the awards ceremonies, up-and-coming advertising film stars celebrated the successful debut of the German Advertising Film Prize together with the Hatto winners 2016 in the Hanseatic City.
Dr. Carsten Brosda, State Council of the Senate Office for Media and Digitalization: "Moving images are becoming more and more important for the entire media branch, and that is particularly true for digital advertising. The German Advertising Film Awards fits Hamburg perfectly, because it awards prizes for craftsmanship and creative performances from the communications branch as well as from the movie industry. We are very pleased to have this new highlight in the city's calendar of events."
