For the Indian label Kartik Research, fine-art photographer Aaryan Sinha created a visually stunning fashion shoot against a rugged quarry landscape. In this archaic setting, clothing, materials, and landscape enter into a direct dialogue – stone, dust, and horizon amplify the tactile qualities of the collection.
Production, of course, remained within the family – ELEMENTS Production Services, headed by his mother, Harsha Sinha, arguably the most experienced producer on the Indian continent.
Sinha’s approach is restrained and cinematic. The protagonists appear introspective, almost merging with their surroundings, while the looks – layered, hand-crafted and rich in detail – feel grounded and natural. The series focuses on materiality and atmosphere.
"Some productions leave a mark not for their scale, but for the people and emotion they carry. This one was personal. Produced for my son, Aaryan Sinha, who was behind the lens, it unfolded alongside another mother–son duo: Kartik and his mother, whose quiet bond brought something deeply honest to the frame. The shoot took us to a sandstone mine in Jodhpur — raw, untouched, and vast.
Aaryan had discovered the space a year earlier, capturing an image there that would later be shortlisted by Dior. Returning to it felt like a quiet homecoming. The terrain — all soft pinks and weathered gold — held both edge and stillness, offering a perfect counterpoint to the textures we were about to introduce. Kartik Research, an artisanal label known for its rooted design language, brought garments rich with handwork, embroidery, and memory. Each piece found its place against the backdrop, the palette of the land in quiet dialogue with the fabric.
Watching Kartik and Aaryan move in sync — pushing the frame, trusting their instinct, almost without words — was the kind of magic that can’t be staged. There was no chaos, just deep attention. And the presence of their mothers, grounding the energy with quiet support, made it all the more special.
As a producer, and as a parent, this one meant something more. It wasn’t a shoot chasing scale — it was a story made with soul. And that made all the difference." Harsha Sinha, Founder Elements Production, India.
Based in New Delhi, Kartik Research operates at the intersection of contemporary design and traditional Indian craftsmanship. The collections are developed in close collaboration with regional artisans, handloom weavers and embroidery specialists. The term “Research” reflects the label’s ongoing exploration of cultural influences, textile techniques and subcultures, translated into modern silhouettes.
Aaryan Sinha works between fine art and documentary photography, exploring themes of memory, identity and landscape. His work has been exhibited internationally, including as part of the Foam Talent programme in Amsterdam, and is included in the collection of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation.
