The e.o. plauen Newcomer Award for hand illustrations was named after Erich Ohser, who grew up in Plauen and is known for his father and son cartoons. In cooperation with the city of Plauen and the e.o.plauen society, the art association Plauen-Vogtland offers the award every three years to support talented newcomers. Initiator and promoter of the competition is the famous draughtsman and illustrator Tomi Ungerer, who received the e.o.plauen Main Award in 2005 for his oeuvre.
