For the latest issue of NUMÉRO Netherlands, actor Thijs Boermans was photographed by the ROOYTWINS c/o SEVERIN WENDELER – and sat down with Marek Bartek to talk about his career, his family, and the thrill of taking on new challenges.
Thijs first gained attention with the short film Gameboy, which, as he recalls, made him realize that acting was his true calling: “That project gave me complete freedom – and it was that very freedom that made me fall in love with acting.”
His mother, Academy Award–nominated director Paula van der Oest, has been a major influence on his creative path. Another defining moment came with the reality show Expeditie Robinson, an experience that was both physically and mentally demanding. “It taught me how important it is to commit to something for the long term – and to stay patient,” Thijs says.
Beyond acting, Boermans is also making his mark as a podcast host and restaurateur. His hit podcast Borrelpraat reaches over 50,000 listeners each week, while his restaurant Nonna in Amsterdam reflects his down-to-earth warmth: “I wanted to create a place that feels like a living room – warm, open, and honest.”
After his leading role in Onze Jongens 3 and the international Netflix success iHostage — a thriller directed by his brother Bobby Boermans — Thijs looks confidently toward the future: “I want to keep growing — as an actor, as a host, and as a father. Everything I do should feel real and authentic.”
The photographer duo ROOYTWINS, composed of brothers Casper & Sebastiaan van Rooy, are known for their vibrant visual language and intuitive storytelling. Growing up side by side, they developed a shared eye for striking compositions – a distinctive style that blends fashion, portrait, and lifestyle photography with precision, emotion, and a modern creative edge.
