“The project started as a way to explore my family roots in the South, a place I’ve never visited before. My great-grandfather Wing Hamilton was a world-renowned horse dentist who grew up in Aiken, South Carolina. He was a civil rights activist and traveled across the US, Dubai, England and Japan to work on his client’s horses (including Queen Elizabeth’s horses).
His brother Thomas Hamilton, however, was the Grand Dragon for the KKK for Georgia and South Carolina, and was arrested by the FBI in one of their first cases against the terrorist group. I’m exploring these two brothers and the South as a way to look at the current political climate in the US.” Maggie Shannon, Fotografin.
