Based in Berlin, Niklas  Coskan represents a bold, narrative-driven approach, defined by a sharp sense of humour, a love for the strange and unconventional, and a clearly recognisable visual voice.
His work is rooted in storytelling that feels both deliberate and playful. With a background in directing, art direction, and illustration, he approaches each project holistically – combining cinematic thinking with graphic precision and a strong sense for rhythm and atmosphere. He graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) in 2014 with a degree in Visual Communication, specialising in film and illustration, and has worked across disciplines ever since.
Alongside his work as a director, Coskan maintains an independent artistic practice. Influenced by subculture, horror films, skateboarding, and punk music, he translates these references into a raw, tactile visual language. His work spans different materials and forms, developing its own presence while directly informing the visual language of his music videos and other moving-image projects.
What sets Coskan apart is his ability to translate unconventional ideas into clear and accessible narratives. His films combine humour with strong visual concepts, balancing intention and instinct. He also brings solid experience in dialogue-driven storytelling, having directed a skit for the first episode of a ZDF show as well as multiple episodes of the satirical YouTube series Browser Ballett in collaboration with ZDFneo. This versatility is reflected in his commercial work for clients such as Adidas, FC Union Berlin, DAZN, BVG, and Holy Hydration.
“Niklas combines narrative clarity, visual confidence, and genuine curiosity for unusual ideas,” says Inga Schlüter, Executive Producer at Abelone Films. “He thinks like an artist while working with the precision of a director – a combination that gives his projects a strong identity and a lot of energy.”
Moving fluidly between film and art, Coskan represents a contemporary directorial voice that feels both precise and instinctive. Abelone Films looks forward to collaborating closely with him on narrative-driven projects defined by attitude, humour, and a distinctive visual edge.
