Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac has invited architect and designer Peter Marino to curate its next exhibition dedicated to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. For the exhibition XYZ at the Paris gallery in the Marais, American Peter Marino, born in 1949 and famous for his extravagant style of clothing, is one the world's most influential architects. The great creative family became first aware of him when his architecture services were booked by Andy Warhol. Since then, his clients include labels such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Giorgio Armani.
For the exhibition XYZ, Peter Marino revisits the three themes he believes fundamental: Mapplethorpe’s XYZ portfolio (X for sex, Y for floral still lifes, and Z for the iconographic male nudes).
The gallery on the procedure : "Conceiving a dense yet precise curation, he selected, at The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation based in New York, 17 Polaroid’s and 60 photographs, some of which are part of the permanent collections of The Guggenheim Museum, LACMA and The J. Paul Getty Museum. Furthering the investigation on traditional perceptions of Mapplethorpe’s work, Peter Marino takes on the same challenge as the artist, bringing every form, every attitude, every concept to its most complete realization. The installation conceived by Peter Marino incites visual correspondences, highlighting the architectural bodies and forms, exploring the sexual aesthetics without inhibition."
In 2011, a large part of Robert Mapplethorpe's work has entered the permanent collections of LACMA and the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles. In March 2016, both museums will jointly present the most extensive Robert Mapplethorpe retrospective to date.

About - Peter Marino is an American architect from Queens, New York City.His retail work includes stores for Ermenegildo Zegna, Christian Dior, Fendi and Louis Vuitton. Marino earned a degree in architecture from Cornell University, and apprenticed in New York City under I. M. Pei, George Nelson and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Andy Warhol was his mentor and early patron. Peter Marino is known for frequently wearing hot black leather and smoking black rubber outfits.
