Die Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac lud Architekt und Designer Peter Marino ein, ihre Robert Mapplethorpe gewidmete Ausstellung zu kuratieren, zu sehen in der Pariser Galerie im Marais. Der US-Amerikaner Peter Marino, 1949 geboren und für seinen aufregenden Kleidungsstil bekannt, gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Architekten der Welt. Die grosse Kreativ-Familie wurde erstmalig auf ihn aufmerksam, als er von Andy Warhol als Architekt engagiert wurde. Seitdem gehören Labels wie Chanel, Louis Vuitton und Giorgio Armani zu seinen Kunden.
Für die Ausstellung XYZ konzentrierte sich Peter Marino auf die drei grossen Themenkreise die er für essentiell im Werk des Fotografen Robert Mapplethorpe hält: und zwar Mapplethorpe’s XYZ Portfolios (X für Sex, Y für seine floralen Still Lifes und Z für die ikonografischen Male Nudes).
Die Galerie über das Procedere : "Conceiving a dense yet precise curation, he selected, at The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation based in New York, 17 Polaroid’s and 60 photographs, some of which are part of the permanent collections of The Guggenheim Museum, LACMA and The J. Paul Getty Museum. Furthering the investigation on traditional perceptions of Mapplethorpe’s work, Peter Marino takes on the same challenge as the artist, bringing every form, every attitude, every concept to its most complete realization. The installation conceived by Peter Marino incites visual correspondences, highlighting the architectural bodies and forms, exploring the sexual aesthetics without inhibition."
In 2011 ging ein Grossteil der Arbeiten Robert Mapplethorpe's in die permanente Sammlung des LACMA und des J. Paul Getty Museums, Los Angeles, über. Und im März 2016 werden beide Museen gemeinsam die größte bisher dagewesene Robert Mapplethorpe Retrospektive auf die Beine stellen.

About - Peter Marino is an American architect from Queens, New York City.His retail work includes stores for Ermenegildo Zegna, Christian Dior, Fendi and Louis Vuitton. Marino earned a degree in architecture from Cornell University, and apprenticed in New York City under I. M. Pei, George Nelson and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Andy Warhol was his mentor and early patron. Peter Marino is known for frequently wearing hot black leather and smoking black rubber outfits.
