Michael Heizer's "City" in the Nevada desert is the world's largest contemporary artwork. After more than 50 years of construction (1970–2022), it has been open to the public since September 2022.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz used the artwork as the perfect backdrop for her Vogue US Celebrity cover editorial featuring actor Timothée Chalamet, one of the most influential actors of his generation.
In the December 2025 issue of Vogue US, Timothée Chalamet spoke with Mattie Kahn about dealing with rejection, balancing career and family, and always giving his all. "My superpower is my fearlessness," the star says. "That's the feedback I've been getting since I was a kid."
You can currently see Timothée in the film "Marty Supreme": In Josh Safdie's biopic, he plays table tennis pro Marty Reisman. Since its US theatrical release in December 2025, the film has become A24 Studios' most successful work to date. For his performance in Marty Supreme, he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in January 2026. He is currently considered a favorite for the upcoming Oscars and BAFTAs, where he is competing against, among others, Leonardo DiCaprio.
City – Reservations for the 2026 season (May 5 to November 19) are already sold out. You can register for the 2026 waiting list through the Triple Aught Foundation in case any slots become available due to cancellations. City is owned and operated by the Triple Aught Foundation, a Nevada-based non-profit organization: "Triple Aught Foundation respectfully acknowledges that the City has been created within the ancestral territories of the Nuwu (Southern Paiute) and Newe (Western Shoshone), who lived in and around the vicinity and call this land home, as their ancestors did before them."
Strict rules apply to visits: A maximum of six people are allowed on the site per day. Unannounced visits are strictly prohibited and, due to the location on private property, dangerous. The regular admission fee is $150.
The tour is a full-day excursion: Visitors are picked up in Alamo, Nevada, driven to the site, which is about 100 km away, and spend approximately four hours there without cell phone reception or designated routes. The artist Michael Heizer is represented worldwide by the Gagosian Gallery.
Annie Leibovitz is represented by the agency LGA MGMT, Paris - London - New York.
