Markus Mueller shoots the O2 'One Message' campaign, the GEO title story and people subjects for the HDI insurances

In its new cover story, GEO magazine asks the question: 'Is artificial intelligence friend or foe?'. The photographs were provided by MARKUS MUELLER. He created futuristic settings about topics ranging from the advanced recognition of crimes to the prediction of natural catastrophes, including power games in the era of big data giants. The pictures show how these intelligent systems could impact our everyday lives – with all possible benefits, risks and, of course, a good bit of humor. If you want to know whether these clever machines are good or bad, read the magazine.

Going out and getting some exercize is, as we all know, better than constantly sitting in front of the computer. For MARKUS MUELLER, it got more physical too: In his next shoot for the O2 'One Message' campaign, he shot a number of fun recreational sports on a huge empty lot in the city: bungee jumping, kiteboarding, flying fox, slackline or tarp surfing. The many activities cranked up the adrenalin and helped create pictures alive with movement. The executive agency was GoSee premium member CLAAS CROPP; the representing agency was VCCP with Art Director Patrick Baumhöfer.

MARKUS MUELLER did an additional shoot in Hamburg and Berlin where he photographed elegant scenes set between lofts and the harbor in banks and private homes for HDI insurances.

About MARKUS MUELLER

Like few other photographers Markus Mueller knows how to use visual means – depth in particular – to create places that invite discovery. Throughout his work he rejects the obvious and embraces the freely associative.

Markus Mueller's path to photography was preceded by a detour through the humanities. He began a degree program in history and political science in his hometown of Dresden, but while slogging through dreary texts he discovered his love of images, and decided to leave university and concentrate on photography instead. He first worked as a photographer’s assistant, and later enrolled at Berlin’s Lette Verein school, earning his diploma in 2003. Since then he has lived and worked in Germany’s capital, where his office is now based.

In addition to his art photography, Markus Mueller is known for his sophisticated work in advertising and is an internationally sought-after photographer for clients such as Adidas, Volkswagen, Land Rover, O2, Hornbach, Mercedes-Benz and Panasonic. Even in his commercial projects, Markus Mueller eschews the functional and instrumental and seeks to create timeless, enduring images. He has received numerous awards for his work, including a Clio Award, an Epica Award and a WPPED Cream Award as well as prizes from ADC Germany, ADC Europe, Cannes Lions and D&AD London.
