"Don McCullin spent decades photographing war and carnage across the globe – then he retrained his lens in the Somerset countryside. As he turns 90, a new book celebrates his gorgeous still lifes and landscapes." THE GUARDIAN. Nadav KANDER c/o LGA MGMT photographed the living legend Don McCullin for the cover of THE GUARDIAN.
The occasion is the release of his new book, 'The Stillness of Life'. This collection of still life and landscape photographs by Sir Don McCullin – most of them previously unpublished – is released to mark his 90th birthday and offers a reflective and contemplative look back at his decades of work. Available for €95.00 from Gost.
Gost about the author: "Don McCullin (b.1935) grew up in Finsbury Park, London. He began taking photographs during his military service and brought his camera back with him to the UK, beginning what would be a life-long commitment to photography.
In 1961 McCullin traveled to Berlin just as the wall was going up, and his resulting photographs earned him a contract with The Observer. He went on to work for major British newspapers during some of the most violent conflicts of the late twentieth-century including Vietnam, Biafra, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Northern Ireland and more recently Iraq and Syria.
Whenever he returned home, McCullin would turn his lens on still-life and landscape as a kind of therapy and loneliness. His landscapes have been the subject of solo exhibitions at international galleries, Hauser & Wirth and Hamiltons Gallery, and are held in the collection of Tate, London where McCullin enjoyed a major retrospective in 2019."
British photojournalist Sir Donald McCullin CBE (born October 9, 1935, in London) is best known for his war photography and images of urban unrest. McCullin currently lives in Somerset. He is married and has five children from previous marriages.
