At the age of fourteen, rapper JUJU, aka Judith Wessendorf, picked up the mic for the first time for friends and was then celebrated on MySpace for her lyrics. In 2014, she and her girlfriend Nura founded the RAP combo SXTN and rocked stages throughout Germany from then on. In 2017, the first solo projects followed, and two years later, the native of Neukölln, Berlin, climbed to No. 3 of the German Album Charts with her solo debut LP ‘Bling Bling’.
In November 2019, she was chosen as Best German Artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2019. That same month, she was awarded the 1-Live Crown in two categories as Best Artist and for the Best Single (Vermissen).
For fashion brand ABOUT YOU, JUJU stood in front of the camera of Lennart Brede. He photographed the meanwhile second exclusive collection by the Berlin rapper which features impressive 90s-inspired pieces such as candy-colored track suits and casual sweat combos. LENNART BREDE - I was born in Kiel, Germany in 1975. In 1995, I moved to Cologne to pursue a career in music and music video direction. In 1998, I traveled to Milan at the invitation of directors Ralph Schmerberg and DoP Franz Lustig to work on a first commercial with Trigger Happy Productions. Shortly thereafter, I enrolled at the University of Wuppertal to study Communications Design with a major in Photography and audiovisual media where I studied under Uwe Loesch, Bazon Brock and Susan Lamer and was introduced to Peter Lindbergh – a major stylistic influence on my work.
I have always fused my pursuit of music with my career and academic pursuits. In fact, the videos I directed for my single releases, where part of my degree dissertation. After graduating from University (graduate diploma communication designer), I concentrated on directing music videos for various artists, working with Gentleman, Thomas D, Sido, Monrose and others.
I have also worked in set design, line production assistant and 1st AD on several commercial and movie sets. While shooting a commercial for Porsche with director Jacques Steyn, I sharpened my focus to video direction and put my first show reel together. Since then I have worked on productions from Germany to Jamaica, China and the USA, developing my filmwork into commercial films for Coca Cola, Escada, DB Bahn, TGV, to mention a few.
Going forward, I hope to direct music videos, commercials and ultimately movies.
