In his series "Elephants in Heaven", photographer Joachim Schmeisser takes us on a very personal tour behind the scenes of the breeding station of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, where he documented orphaned elephant children, their keepers and their daily struggle against poachers. His sensitive photos of the little orphaned elephants and the impressive portraits of the mythical African giants are meant to raise awareness for the protection urgently needed by these wonderful creatures. At the same time, they pay homage to the beauty and limitless diversity of our nature.
IMMAGIS presents a selection of his photos in part with large-format works. "For the first time, works are also on display as exclusive platinum palladium prints. This rare and elaborate fine-printing process for photographic prints dates back to the year 1878 and captivates with unique photo quality as well as nearly unlimited durability," Kathrin Köhler from IMMAGIS FINE ART tells GoSee.
"The sensitive animal portraits by Joachim Schmeisser also convey the dramatic consequences of poaching because Joachim Schmeisser is concerned with beauty and transience. They are about dignity and equality for each and every individual," says the team from EICHHORNFILM, which realized the film on work of Joachim Schmeisser.
The opening took place on the 23 November, and photographer Joachim Schmeisser signed his illustrated book of the same name, 'Elephants in heaven', published by teNeues Publishing. The photos are still on display thru 27 January at Munich-based gallery (IMMAGIS FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY, Blütenstr. 1, Munich, Tues. - Fri.: 2 – 6pm, Sat.: 11am – 2pm and by arrangement).
