What if a vacation wasn't about relaxing? – DIE ZEIT author Laura Sophia Jung always thought vacations were for relaxing. Then she visited what is probably the world's largest sports resort. And soon found herself having to Google how to stay full at night. Always by her side, eager to capture the action and fearless: photographer Alexandra Polina.
The Playitas Resort on Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, is one of Europe's leading sports hotels. It offers an Olympic-sized, heated 50-meter pool with 8 lanes, a 700 m² high-tech fitness studio, approximately 250 rental bikes (road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes), 7 tennis courts and 7 padel courts, as well as its own 18-hole golf course right at the resort. They also offer courses in sailing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
The Playitas Resort is now part of the DERTOUR Group (formerly DER Touristik), which is the travel division of the German REWE Group. The project was originally developed in the 2000s with the participation of the Swiss travel company Kuoni and the Bernese Holiday Association, before later being fully integrated into the current corporate structure.
Photographer Alexandra Polina is represented by the Hamburg-based agency JULIA WALDMANN.
