For The New Yorker’s summer “Flash Fiction” column, photographer Caroline Heinecke created a colorful and playful food composition with a subtle sense of humor. At the center: melting ice cream, floral patterns and plenty of summer vibes.
The work was created for the “Flash Fiction” column by author Libby Flores. Food styling was by Anke Rabeler c/o Nina Rautenberg, who worked with Caroline to create the deliberately playful, slightly exaggerated look. “Really happy to have worked on this assignment for The New Yorker,” says Caroline Heinecke, who particularly thanks Photo Editor Momo Takahashi for the wonderful collaboration.
Caroline Heinecke works across still life, food and conceptual photography, combining carefully staged imagery with humor and unexpected visual moments. Alongside her commissioned work, she pursues her own artistic practice spanning conceptual still life and documentary photography. Her work explores the interplay between objects, memory and perception, transforming seemingly ordinary things into precisely composed visual narratives. Her fine art work has been shown in Arles as well as at Brung Gallery and AFF Gallery in Berlin.
