Warm, deep sunlight, sandy earth tones, and the perfect, shimmering shadows—and we instantly feel a sense of slowing down, summer, and wanderlust. Fashion photography knows how to convey this feeling. Reason enough to pack your bags... especially as a photographer.
Photographer Tim Sonntag was commissioned by CLOSED to stage and photograph the stills campaign shown here. He had complete creative freedom regarding both location and staging.
What did Tim do? He traveled to Mexico with a suitcase full of fashion to capture the images that make us dream, in these idyllic locations. Through his skillful interplay of light and shadow, he created almost narrative fragments, reminiscent of stills from a film. Upon his return, he handed over the images, along with the suitcase, to Closed.
CLOSED – founded in the 1970s by the French designer duo Marithé and François Girbaud in France and acquired by Hamburg-based Günther Giers and Hans-Joachim Leplow in the early 1990s – was taken over in 2004 by Gordon Giers (son of the previous owner) together with his friends Til Nadler and Hans Redlefsen. They transformed the Closed label from a purely denim brand into a global, minimalist premium casualwear brand.
Production, however, continues to take place in Italy: To this day, Closed works closely with long-established Italian partners for its denim products – most notably the world-renowned Candiani Denim mill. Almost all of the heritage jeans are handcrafted, washed, and finished in Italy.
Photographer Tim Sonntag is represented by the Hamburg agency JULIA WALDMANN.
