The South African photographer focuses on portraits and documentaries from his homeland South Africa and the African continent. Large-scale museum exhibitions have been held at Museu Coleção Berardo, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg as well as at the Hague Museum of Photography, Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Fotografiska in Stockholm, MAXXI in Rome, and the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane. Hugo has participated in numerous group exhibitions for various institutions. In 2015, he was nominated for the Prix Pictet and was chosen as an ‘In Focus’ artist for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
