From 13 until 18 May 2014, Hermès presents the ‘Festival des Métiers’ for the third time in Germany. After San Francisco, Toronto, London and Milan, the skilled craftsmen now present their work in Hamburg. Hermès offers visitors a look behind the scenes of the fashion house and opens the doors to their workshops.
Sarah Rempen, our GoSee correspondent, told us: ‘it was an enchanting exhibition in the impressive museum courtyard in Hamburg. Friendly women in stripy T-shirts greeted me as soon as I came in. Each lady was wearing a Hermes silk scarf, each in a different way: around her neck, hips or creatively tied up with her hair. It was really pretty.
The stands were an example of fine craftsmanship - silk printer, illustrator, tie trailor, china painter, tanner, bag makers, saddlers and watchmakers. A staff member from the Hermes studio (where no more than 25 people work), explained her craft, while a friendly lady in stripy T-shirt translated. One was able to watch, touch and ask questions .... everything was lovingly detailed, beautiful illustrations, delicate materials. In the true sense a rendezvous with the Hermes craft artists.’
