Die Malediven gehören genau genommen zu Asien und liegen 671 Kilometer südwestlich von Sri Lanka am Äquator. Es ist geografisch das kleinste asiatische Land und hat gleichzeitig mit 350.000 Einwohnern die niedrigste Population.
