Here on GoSee.News, we bring you a very special personal project by Simon PUSCHMANN c/o UPFRONT : ‘CALIFORN-IR – a dystopian road trip through California photographed in the 550 nm infrared wavelength’.
UPFRONT : “The Dream Factory, land of counterculture & innovation. There is no other landscape in the US that has shaped so many generations of mass culture quite like California. In his new series CALIFORN-IR, Simon Puschmann devotes his craft to infrared photography and shows viewers an exciting, and at the same time, disruptive perspective of contemporary Cali. 45 works were created in 2022 with a converted Sony Alpha 7 R III at 550nm, which enables photographers to capture light beyond the spectrum visible for humans.
Chlorophyll is a pigment produced by plants, algae and other organisms which engage in photosynthesis, reflecting electromagnetic waves in the spectrum perceived by the human eye as the color green. But under conditions of infrared photography, it is either transparent – an observation first published by Robert Williams Wood in 1919 – or you can assign one of the seven spectral colors in post-processing.”
The virtual gallery with all 45 works are also available online via the link below. Post production was in the hands of Harvest Digital Agriculture.
