More than 500 guests from film and TV productions, agencies and media were there when the desired Hatto trophies were awarded. The big winner of the evening: "Nutjob" by the production company Bigfish and the agency Dojo for the music streaming service Deezer, which was elected "Advertising Film of the Year" leaving 456 other contenders behind.
Jury President Niels Alzen: "The winner inspired us all because he proved that success is possible without market research results or being tested 1.000 times and made squeaky clean. You don't have to dance to the same tune as everyone else, it's okay to follow your own melody."
Winners in several categories were the spots "Speed Wheels" by Marc Schölermann & loved for Audi (Best Camera, Best Editing and Best Composition/ Best Sound Design) and "Gothic Girl" by Trigger Happy (production) and Heimat (agency) for the customer Hornbach (Best Director and Best Script).
For the first time, the sponsorship award of the German Advertising Film Academy (DWA) was awarded during the ceremonies for the best film idea not yet filmed. Erik Ström beat nine other nominees with his concept "Killing The Tire Swing". The Swedish native is happy to receive 20,000 euros to realize his film as well as the comprehensive expert support of the DWA members. In addition, cinema marketer Werbeweischer sponsors the placement of the winning spot in selected cinemas with a media value of 15,000 euros.
The DWA fulfilled their duty of promoting talent once more by awarding the best newcomer advertising film. The prize went to Djawid Hakimyar of the Film Academy Baden Württemberg, who convinced the jury with his spot "Wet Dream" for LBS.
Lots of applause was what Michael Rittmannsberger, the winner of the sponsoring prize 2014, received when he presented the spot he produced for Amnesty International "The Convicted". It picks up the topic of human rights violations because of homosexual orientation in the Middle East and Africa in a touching and surprising way. So there was more than enough to talk about. And the guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and had stimulating discussions long after the awards ceremony was over.
The German Advertising Film Academy (DWA) was established in June 2013 as an independent and self-governing entity. It awards the German Advertising Film prize each year to the best cinematic and technical work and also awards the sponsoring prize and the newcomer prize. Unlike their competitors, DWA not only allows companies, productions and agencies to nominate advertising films for an award but anyone interested, and for free.
