Since the ‘60s, Theo Wormland (1907-1983), founder of the WORMLAND company, has built up one of the most important private German collections of Surrealism. An exhibition to honour the fashion entrepreneur, the collection will be on show in the special exhibition ‘PAINTING DREAMS. ERNST, MAGRITTE, DALÍ, PICASSO, ANTES, NAY – THE WORMLAND DONATION’ at the recently reopened Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich.

In addition to classic key pieces in classic Surrealism, including masterpieces by Max Ernst, René Magritte, Richard Oelze and Pablo Picasso, the exhibition will also be a focus on the private collection, the artists of the new movement.

After over 30 years in which a total of 70 artworks from the vast Wormland collection were already on permanent loan to the Bavarian state painting collections, the Wormland Foundation has now gifted these to Munich’s Pinakothek der Moderne, in keeping with the charitable spirit of Willen Theo Wormland.

The exhibition is accompanied by an elaborate catalogue, as well as a multimedia guide with countless background information and imagery. There is also a free App to download from iTunes Store (for iPhones) and Google Play Store (for Android Smartphones). All information is listed on the Pinakothek website, which also has all the audio guides for the artworks.

And they are also giving away a trip to Munich for two people (who can fill out a German form to enter) including a hotel stay and a guided tour of the ‘Painting Dreams’ exhibition at Pinakothek der Moderne. Dates flexible. Competition closes 30.09.2013.

After six months of restoration works, the museum has been reopened with a grand total of four exhibitions. The aforementioned dream exhibition, Architekturmuseum der Technischen Universität München presents African architecture, die Design-Sammlung shows Moroccan carpets and Kunst der Moderne und die Graphische Sammlung provides a fresh look at the often-overlooked aspects of Andy Warhol’s talent with an exhibition of his drawings.
