The border separating Mexico and the United States stretches from Imperial Beach, California and Tijuana, Baja California, to Matamoros, Tamaulipas in the west and Brownsville, Texas in the East.
The borderline crosses all sorts of terrain, including large areas of settlement, but also deserts that are hostile to all forms of life.
The absolute length of the border is quite impressive, spanning 3,169 km (1,969 miles), it is widely considered the border with the most crossing points in the world: an estimated 350 million people use it – in both directions mind you.
The more so, as Mexico has been enjoying a constant economy growth in recent times, something that California can only indulge in their dreams.
Photographer Stefan FALKE photographed 50 artists and art enthusiasts along the south-side of the US-Mexican border in Baja California for his book project:
Stefan commented "with my long term book project 'LA FRONTERA: artists along the US-Mexican Border' I want to document the very creative life in a region that is portrayed by the international media mostly with stories about violence, drug trafficking and illegal immigration." is what has to say about his inspirations.
"My plan is to travel to every town and city along the entire border for my book project." We will be happy to report ..
