Over the course of its 70-year history, the Locarno Film Festival has established itself among the most important film festivals in the world. Since 1946, the International Film Festival of Locarno takes place in August of every year in the town of Locarno in Ticino, Switzerland. It is part of the Film Festival of Venice and the Moscow Film Festival, both of which were founded as early as the 1930s, and is along with the Cannes Film Festival and the Film Festival Karlovy Vary (founded in 1946) among the oldest film festivals in the world. Every year in August, Locarno becomes the world capital of the auteur cinema. It is where thousands of film fans and industry representatives come together and indulge in their passion for cinema in all its facets.
