MARC THIROUIN photographed not one but two spreads for RED COLLECTOR magazine. For the first spread titled ‘Las Mujeres’, he was inspired by the filmed worlds of director Pedro Almodovar – who also happened to be the magazine’s main theme.
The photographer told GoSee: ‘I decided to focus completely on the women in Pedro Almodovar’s films for this shoot and watched almost all of his films in preparation. Several of his women really impressed me. For this theme I wanted to capture portraits of strong women as well as contrasting them with an object. I photographed the style on coloured paper to reference the proud country of Spain.’
We also present the filmed making-of that Marc Thirouin produced alongside the shoot in the studio in Paris.
The second spread is called ‘Nascondere’ and this time Red Collector’s overarching theme for the issue was actor Marcello Mastroiani. Marc confided in GoSee: ‘I immediately thought of the film ‘La Dolce Vita’ with him and Anita Ekberg. And I was keen to create a spread that referenced the film’s central scene. Beautiful love, magic in the water - a reference to the iconic scene at the Tevis Fountain in Rome.’
