With her razor-sharp structures, the Berlin-based artist JOCROMA aka Johanna Creutzburg convinced the jury at GoSeeAWARDS15 in the category Illustration - and received the Bronze Award in 2015.
About - Jocroma aka Johanna Creutzburg was born in Rostock, former East Germany, in 1982. She studied illustration at University of Applied Science in Hamburg, graduating in 2008. She now lives in Berlin and set up her studio in Prenzlauer Berg. The main focus in her illustrations lays in hand made paintings. Johannas recognizable and unique style explores the potential of color and shape, deconstructing figures and remodeling surroundings, moving between figurative and abstract painting. Her inspiration lies in urban environments and modern life. These influences are worn lightly in a portfolio of vivid and strikingly colorful images. Carefully assembled tableaus are created with bold aesthetic compositions often allegorical or surreal. Many pictures show interactions between humans, animals and technology. Emotive backgrounds and personal stories accompany photographic ideas, evolving in futuristic scenery.
Johanna says it is a necessity for her to communicate artistically, to narrate, design and arouse emotions through paintings and illustrations. „Being an artist is my job, but it also means a lot of freedom and passion.“ Johannas diversity of artistic practice has involved her in all sectors of art and design. Alongside her illustration career, Johanna also works as a fine artist, specialized in painting, drawing and printmaking. Her art works were shown at numerous exhibitions, her work can be found in public and private collections in Germany and Scandinavia, such as Sammlung Schirm Berlin and Ystad Konstmuseum.
