About - Scottish Widows has been helping people plan their financial futures for almost 200 years. From a meeting in an Edinburgh coffee house in 1812, Scotland’s first mutual life office was born. A group of eminent businessmen set out ‘a plan for establishing in Scotland a general fund for securing provision to widows, sisters and other females, to be called the ‘Scottish Widows’ Fund Life Assurance Society'.
