It finally happened last weekend – the fourth annual edition of BFFF – the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Several categories, many films, and plenty awards… plus an incredible amount of nudity, thanks to Astra. For further information, please ask the organizers or the presenter Wana Limar. We could not document it – we were too consumed by what was going on at the show. And as we see it, what happens in Berlin should sometimes stay in Berlin.
The challenging thing about awards ceremonies is always the presentation. There are so many categories and so many fashion film entries, it is hard to reduce the vast amount to what is essential. Even so, MTV STYLE MC Wana Limar (excellent!) and the team led by Frank Funke and Niccolo L. M. Montanari did a great job of making the evening an entertaining event, which everyone will remember. One of our absolute personal highlights is the film 'ASPIRATIONAL', featuring tag novice Kirsten Dunst by Matthew Frost and Kay Kienzler’s 'Review' commercial – both can be seen here on GoSee. The complete Winner Liste can be seen directly on the site of BFFF.
The official program already began on the morning of June 5th, at the lovely location Astra Kulturhaus. Very vintage and 100% Berlin. About 500 guests from the advertising, fashion and film industries visited the case studies of international speakers. For example that of Mill+ Creative Director Carl Addy on the esthetics of fashion films through the use of visual effects. And we absolutely have to share Margo Mars with you, the Executive Producer/Head of Production at PRETTYBIRD London, whose topic, which was themed upon the key word 'visionary artists for visionary brands', presents examples ('GAP Instagram' or 'Absolut Nights' by producer Melina Matsoukas) of how new technologies can be used for even more effective communication. It did the job for us – and we really enjoyed our conversation with her.
'The importance of short films in building brand image and its growing importance in a brand’s communication strategy' was the topic of Charlotte La Salle of NOWNESS. 'Since short films are one of the best ways to engage and to share an experience, they are crucial for building a brand image. According to Forrester Research, “a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words,” the director of the video portal tells us. A bold theory, on the other hand – who watches films that are longer than 40 seconds nowadays?
And there was also a panel discussion with film director Kathryn Ferguson, Stephen Whelan of Whitelodge, Alexandra Bondi & Sebastian Hennecke of i-D Germany, etc.
