30 years of Acne Studios – a perfect occasion to revisit Autoportrait, the 21st issue of Acne Paper. The S/S 2026 issue explores the creative world that has grown around Acne Studios since its founding in Stockholm in 1996 – spanning fashion, photography, art, architecture, design and publishing.
Autoportrait tells this story not as a traditional retrospective, but through the artists, creatives and friends who have shaped the Acne universe over three decades. The cover, photographed by Carlijn Jacobs and styled by Imruh Asha, features Lulu Tenney and captures the spirit of the issue: artistic freedom, intimacy and joyfulness at the intersection of art and fashion.
At the heart of the issue are four self-portrait stories by Jordan Hemingway, Guinevere van Seenus, Malick Bodian and Katerina Jebb, alongside an Acne Studios archive story photographed by Casper Sejersen and styled by George Krakowiak. Beyond these stories, the issue reads like a who’s who of the extended Acne universe: conversations with Sadie Coles, Honey Dijon, Max Lamb, Viviane Sassen, Robbie Barrat and Swedish actress Lena Endre meet essays by Natasha Fraser, Mark Holgate, Johanna Agerman Ross, Xerxes Cook and Vince Aletti, among others.
At the centre of these three decades is Jonny Johansson, whose collaborative and cross-disciplinary approach has shaped Acne Studios since 1996. Autoportrait is therefore not simply an anniversary issue, but a portrait of the many artists, creatives and friends whose collaborations and exchanges have helped define the visual world of Acne Studios. To mark its launch, Autoportrait was accompanied by a series of site-specific activations and pop-ups in select cities – some impressions of which we share here on GoSee.
In Paris, Acne Paper now also has a permanent home: Acne Paper Palais Royal is Acne Studios’ first permanent gallery space, extending the house’s relationship with art, photography, design and publishing through its own exhibition and cultural programme.
On view until October 7 is RODEO: 75 vintage photographs by Bruce of Los Angeles, curated by Vince Aletti. Taken during Bruce Bellas’ travels through the American West, the photographs portray cowboys and rodeo riders beyond the conventions of classic physique photography. Alongside the exhibition, a second edition of Rodeo: Bruce of Los Angeles, edited by Vince Aletti and published by Acne Studios, has also been released.
With Autoportrait, we take another look at 30 years of Acne Studios – while already looking forward to the next issue of Acne Paper here at GoSee.
