STILL LIFE – the winners the category 'Stills' at the GoSeeAWARDS 2016 : Gold for EVA ROOVERS and JUSTIN FANTL, Silver goes to ADRIAN & GIDI and SIX & FIVE, and Bronze for ANNE DEPPE and HVILSHJ PHOTOGRAPHY

In the category STILLS, the jury particularly noticed two photographers: Justin FANTL c/o GIANT ARTISTS from LA and Eva Roovers from Amsterdam. Both work closely at the intersection of art. Justin convinced with his fine line compositions and Eva Roovers with her imaginative arrangements and sculptures. The jurors in the category STILLS could hardly decide in light of so much creativity, and so like GOLD, SILVER was also awarded twice. Second place is actually shared by four creatives, who have extended their cosmos far beyond the limits of classic photography: ADRIAN & GIDI – aka Adrian Woods & Gidi van Maarseveen – plus SIX & FIVE, the design studio of Andy Reisinger and Ezequiel Pini from Barcelona. Third place is shared by Danish still life virtuoso MIKKEL JUL HVILSHI and still life photographer Anne Deppe from Berlin.

Eva ROOVERS flew in from Amsterdam to be at UPDATE in person. 'Sculptural Photography' is what she calls her type of photography. “My work is staged and consists of object photography. In the studio, I create colorful sculptures out of daily life products. Such as a dustbin brush, mirror, plant, cup or a lemon. These mundane objects are combined into monumental constructions before being photographed as spatial strategies such as the creation of assemblages of everyday objects or theatrical installations. Removed from their original context, they become alienated as formal experiments. In line with abstract works that anticipate on a long tradition within the visual arts where painters such as Malevich and Van Doesberg played an important role.” She works at her studio in Amsterdam for clients including KLM, Calvin Klein, ELLE UK, Tommy Hilfiger, or L'officiel de la Mode. Her artificial works can be seen at EVAROOVERS.COM and her contract works on STUDIO EVA ROOVERS.

The second GOLD award in the category STILLS goes to JUSTIN FANTL. The photographer living in LA studied in NYC and San Francisco and has already received several awards for his works. “I try to go with a gut feeling (at least at the outset). I like to throw things down (albeit carefully!).” His agency GIANT ARTISTS adds: “His enthusiasm spills onto his canvass in still lifes that capture a sense of wonder and humor. A perpetual observer and explorer, he is equally at home in the studio and outdoors. Whether seeking or constructing, there is often a nod to the surreal and a careful play of color and composition at the root of his imagery. If you look closely, there are imperfections in the work, and in some ways, those are the things that make the images feel a bit more real or tangible.”

Works by both photographers are presented here on GoSee. Who wants to find out more can gladly contact GIANT ARTISTS or Eva Roovers.

ADRIAN & GIDI studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague where they first met. “Since 2012, we have been working together specializing in tangible still life and product photography and favor a playful and experimental approach toward work. We love to work with a wide range of materials and techniques including paper art, paper craft, Styrofoam, Plexiglas, miniatures and wood.” They produce, decorate, fold, glue, and photograph for Elle NL, Elle DK, Code DE, Cosmopolitan MN, Phillips, Dirk vd Broek, KLM Asia, Air France, Specsavers, Histor, FOAM, Quote magazine, Het Parool, 3D Systems, FONK magazine, Niels Shoe Meuleman, Cosmogirl NL... and are represented by GoSee member PHOTOBY.

Behind SIX & FIVE c/o ANALOG/DIGITAL are Andy Reisinger and Ezequiel Pini. “Six & Five is a young, contemporary art studio specializing in still life visuals with a clean, modern aesthetic; as the founders themselves put it – “exploring the frontier zone between art and design”. Apart from working on both advertising and editorial commissions, Andy & Eze also find time to create experimental work which is legitimizing CGI as a new medium for creative self-expression.”

Third place is shared by Danish still life virtuoso MIKKEL JUL HVILSHI and still life photographer Anne Deppe from Berlin. Both create high-end stills with an artistic approach.

Mikkel Jul Hvilshøj is a high-end still life photographer based in Copenhagen, Denmark and chosen for Lürzer's Archive 200 Best Ad Photographers worldwide 2016/17. He has been shooting advertising and editorial assignments for the past 10+ years, specializing in high-end still life photography. His approach to any assignment aims to create images of minimalism and serenity, combined with a dynamic, elegant and luxurious feel. Often letting the formal shape and qualities of an object set the creative direction, and with high technical standards, he always strives to create beautiful images.

ANNE DEPPE collects beautiful things in her photos. She is particularly fond of those, with which she connects a story. They are sometimes kept and get their own place in her home. Her photos are sober and, at the same time, sensitive and playful. Her image compositions are marked by graphical clarity which is broken up by authentic lighting.

Sympathy winner in the category STILLS this year is René Riis, specialized in food, still life and portraits. More than 20 cookbooks and wine books, several of which award-winning, are within his portfolio. The native of Denmark has lived in Berlin since 2010. Especially for the GoSeeAWARDS, the photographer created the spread 'Todsünden' (Deadly Sins), which we are pleased to present you here on GoSee.

About Eva Roovers

Eva Roovers is an artist specialized in luxury product photography. Working for international fashion brands and magazine's.

Trough a carefully selected color pallet and with a delicate eye for textures and surfaces she creates playful but refined images.
In a bold colorful style she combines the impossible, turning the everyday in poetics and matching contrasting elements in perfect harmony.

Making use of mirrors, balance and colored lighting, all effects are created in the studio without (digital) trickery.

There is a reference to abstract paintings from Bauhaus to the Constructivist movement, with her graphical approach and geometrical shapes that flatten and deepen the images simultaniously.
