Architectural Digest has released a special "Open Door—Usher Edition," offering a cinematic and deeply personal glimpse into the singer's Atlanta home. Usher Raymond IV.—known globally by the stage name Usher—is an American R&B singer, actor, and multi-Grammy Award winner.
For this AD special, Usher collaborated closely with director Steven Klein to transform the traditional "Open Door" format into a high-fashion, cinematic short film. Standout features in the film include his grandmother Tina’s piano and a backlit, cross-shaped art piece containing dried flowers from her funeral.
Launched in 2017, "Open Door" is Architectural Digest’s (AD) highly successful video series. In this series, international celebrities, musicians, actors, and athletes open the doors to their private homes and personally guide viewers through their living spaces.
What makes it unique? There is no outside host and no gossip. The stars themselves (such as Kendall Jenner, Dakota Johnson, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya & Tom Holland, Billie Eilish, and now Usher) walk through their homes with the camera crew, showing off their favorite spots and sharing the stories behind their furniture and artwork.
Steven Klein’s direction turned the Usher episode into something truly groundbreaking. Thanks to Klein, the visit became a high-fashion, cinematic short film with visuals strongly reminiscent of his famous fashion photography. It’s quite the stylish gauntlet thrown down—we are eager to see which celebrity will raise the visual bar next.
