The celebrated Scottish actress, artist, and fashion icon Tilda Swinton presents with “Tilda Swinton – Ongoing” a deeply personal tribute to the power of collaboration and the creative agency of the performer.
At the EYE Amsterdam exhibition, new and existing works from eight of her artistic partners and friends will be shown: Pedro Almodóvar, Luca Guadagnino, Joanna Hogg, Derek Jarman, Jim Jarmusch, Olivier Saillard, Tim Walker, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. For the first time, the EYE Filmmuseum devotes such comprehensive attention to an actor’s influence on both art and film.
Director Luca Guadagnino will create an intimate portrait of Swinton in the form of a short film and sculpture. Together with her longtime friend and filmmaker Joanna Hogg, Swinton will present “Flat 19”—a multimedia reconstruction of her 1980s London apartment that explores memory, space, and personal history. Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch will rework existing footage from his absurdist zombie film The Dead Don’t Die (2019) into a new installation.
In collaboration with fashion historian Olivier Saillard, Swinton stages a multi-day performance featuring pieces from her personal archive—film costumes, red carpet gowns, and family heirlooms—displayed in the exhibition space. Tim Walker visited her Scottish home to create a photo series on her connection to her ancestors and the continuity of place. Apichatpong Weerasethakul contributes an installation evoking the presence of spirits and ancestors in a contemplative, atmospheric form.
HANNIBAL BOOKS publishes the accompanying book, offering a rich and layered portrait of an exceptional artistic practice. Over 40 years of creative exchange are illuminated—showing how enduring relationships shape both films and art projects. It includes conversations between Tilda Swinton and collaborators such as Jim Jarmusch and Pedro Almodóvar, as well as contributions from Olivia Laing and Rajendra Roy (Chief Curator, Film, at MoMA). The book is designed by Irma Boom and is already available through Hannibal Books and in bookstores.
The publication is released in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition at Eye Filmmuseum, Amsterdam, from 28 September 2025 to 8 February 2026.

Eye Filmmuseum: The striking new building, designed by architectural firm Delugan‑Meissl, evokes a futuristic spacecraft with its sweeping forms and luminous facades, playing with light, reflection, and spatial dynamics—especially in relation to the surrounding water. The design emphasizes cinematic elements: windows, sightlines, and reflections are carefully orchestrated to give visitors an experience where visual storytelling, architecture, and film heritage converge. Since its opening in 2012, EYE has become more than a film archive—it is a place where the arts of the moving image are made visible and felt in their full diversity.
