For the 7th anniversary of OTTOLENGHI ROVI in London’s Fitzrovia, the popular restaurant received a high-calibre visual update: the artists Gilles & Cecilie c/o 2AGENTEN transformed the space into a large-scale charcoal artwork that covers both the walls and the ceiling.
The abstract charcoal forms – interspersed with strong red accents – give the open dining room a new, organic sense of movement. The drawings flow through the space like a continuous band, creating a gestural, almost performative quality that fits perfectly with Ottolenghi’s signature style: sensual, handcrafted, immediate.
In addition to the walls, the ceiling panels, parts of the menu design and even the new staff uniforms were equipped with charcoal-based elements – a holistic design concept that seamlessly connects art and gastronomy. While the restaurant remains true to its well-known culinary philosophy – vegetables, seasonality, fermentation – the theme of fire moves more into focus than ever. This aligns not only with the cuisine but also symbolically with the bold, vibrant lines of the new artwork.
