In April 2022, Marta Ortega Pérez assumed the role of non-executive chairwoman at Inditex, the world's largest fashion group. She succeeded Pablo Isla, carrying on the legacy of her father, company founder Amancio Ortega, into the next generation.

Annie Leibovitz photographed Marta Ortega Pérez for Vogue in her private garden at her home in A Coruña, in northwestern Spain. In addition to the private gardens, the shoot also took place at Inditex's state-of-the-art corporate headquarters in nearby Arteixo.

After graduating with a degree in economics from the European Business School in London, Marta began her career incognito as a sales assistant at a Zara store in Chelsea, London. Her goal was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the company's operations and direct customer interaction. Over the next 15 years, she worked in various departments and locations worldwide, including logistics, finance, and visual merchandising.

Under her leadership, the fashion group achieved record profits – despite changing market conditions and ever-increasing online competition – including a net profit of €6.2 billion in the last fiscal year.

And so the circle closes: Before her appointment as CEO, she worked for years at the company's headquarters in Arteixo, Spain, in the product and design department for Zara Woman. There, she played a key role in enhancing the brand's image through collaborations with high-profile fashion photographers such as Steven Meisel and, of course, Annie Leibovitz, as well as exclusive capsule collections.

In her rare, extensive interview with Vogue, the otherwise rather discreet former professional show jumper offered insights into her private life. The mother of three children—her eldest son Amancio is from her first marriage to show jumper Sergio Álvarez Moya—is married to Carlos Torretta, with whom she has a daughter (Matilda, 6 years old) and a son (Manuel, 2 years old).
