'Every 20 minutes, an elephant is killed. Their ivory is in demand in Asia. But of all countries, China is now giving a sign of hope.' The text on the alarming topic of elephant genocide was written by Fritz Habekuß. Vincent van de Wijngaard photographed the Africa reportage presented on GoSee for DIE ZEIT magazine. The spread was produced by Africa specialist BAKER KENT.
The works appeared in DIE ZEIT MAGAZINE No. 45/2017. We quote: "Dutch photographer Vincent van de Wijngaard traveled to this war zone together with the donation funded organization Save The Elephants to document the war waged by rangers and conservationists with poachers and smugglers in Kenya – using drones, planes and helicopters on one side and poison arrows on the other. If conservationists don't win this war, elephants could be extinct in only a few decades – a scenario which is not at all improbable."
