'The shadows cast by this land art, along with the beautiful golden light got us thinking about this automotive story and the lines of the Maserati Boomerang seem to work perfectly with the architecture. Both pieces of art feel lost in time, almost from another world,' so Nick Meek.
RECOM : 'Over a series of dawn shoots, Nick and Christoph Bolten (RECOM) discussed what could be added to these unique structures, to counterpoint their amazing forms and jaw-dropping arid landscape setting, before settling on a 1972 Maserati concept car in gold. The smooth angles and precise lines of the car juxtaposed against the otherworldly environment of the sculptures form a vignette of a wild desert adventure, a fragment of a story that's still to be told. Nick Meek shot not only on his 100MP digital camera, but also plenty of 4X5 inch colour negative sheets, giving RECOM great references to re-create that beautiful filmic look. While on set they captured plenty of HDR domes with a LizardQ rig, enabling us to seamlessly integrate the CG object into the backplate photos with accurate lighting reflections. The wintery desert light, in combination with the golden car paint, provided the retoucher, Kate Brown, with a solid foundation for creating the desired look, and a realistic bloom and film grain!'
