2018 is the 70th anniversary of Sardinia as an autonomous region in Italy. For the event, they wanted to celebrate with a big campaign all over the island reminding people of the duty of each island inhabitant as well as the rights they have. Which is why the advertising agency wanted portraits of several normal people, in black and white, looking proud and joyful in front of the camera.
"The campaign is very nice because they invested a lot of money on appearing everywhere on the island – from billboards, bus stops, bus and tram stations, newspapers as well as online – with 30 huge faces displayed everywhere in Sardinia." photographer Michele SECCHI c/o ANDREA HEBERGER tells GoSee.
Michele explains : "From a photographic point of view, it was also challenging: the art director wanted black & white photographs that look fresh, bright and friendly, but also good with a white text on top. Then I had to put together smart outfits, the perfect background and shed well-balanced light on the subject. I have always thought of myself as a color photographer, it was cool to face the challenge of an only black & white campaign." We have the result for you on GoSee.
About - Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus). It is located in the Western Mediterranean, to the immediate south of the French island of Corsica. Sardinia is politically a region of Italy, whose official name is Regione Autonoma della Sardegna / Regione Autònoma de Sardigna (Autonomous Region of Sardinia), and enjoys some degree of domestic autonomy granted by a specific Statute. It is divided into four provinces and a metropolitan city, with Cagliari being the region's capital and its largest city as well. Sardinia's indigenous language and the other minority languages (Sassarese, Corsican Gallurese, Algherese Catalan and Ligurian Tabarchino) spoken on the island are recognized by the regional law and enjoy "equal dignity" with Italian.
