With her poetic, often dreamlike illustrations, María Hergueta explores themes of memory, intimacy, nature and inner emotional landscapes. Her works move between delicate observation and quiet imagination - tender, atmospheric and filled with narrative detail. Through this, the illustrator has developed a visual language that feels modern, sensitive and timeless at once.
The Spanish illustrator lives and works between Barcelona and the South of France. After studying Fine Arts, she has spent more than ten years working successfully as a freelance illustrator for international media, magazines and publishers. Her work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Financial Times, Scientific American, El País and Psychologie Heute. In addition, María Hergueta has illustrated numerous children’s books and book covers.
A defining characteristic of her work is the unique balance between reduction and emotional depth. With soft color palettes, organic forms and an almost floating sense of calm, María Hergueta creates illustrations that do not tell their stories loudly, but rather linger quietly - like small visual poems.
