A drink with a history: photographer Janik Gensheimer dedicates his series “Adlon Special – Mirabeau Bar” to a cocktail dating back to 1928, translating its classic elegance into an equally refined and atmospheric visual language.
“The Mirabeau Bar in Freiburg is dedicated to a special art form: the meticulous recreation of historic cocktails. The Adlon Spezial, created in 1928, combines two historic cocktail categories: the ‘Martini’ and the ‘Brandy Fix.’ Glamour and understated elegance in a single glass,” explains the photographer.
“All three locations are brought together in the series, telling the story of this fusion. The result is imagery that conveys the bar’s unique atmosphere and brings the quality of the drinks to life. The images evoke a desire to be there, to experience this ambiance, to drink from these glasses – images that invite and attract new guests.”
Rather than focusing on the classic bar setting itself, Gensheimer places glass, liquid, light and colour at the heart of the series. Deep greens meet warm amber tones, while reflections and soft focus lend the cocktail glass an almost sculptural quality. A visual exploration of the distinctive character of the Mirabeau Bar – and of that almost forgotten elegance associated with the culture of the classic cocktail.
