'Modern Alchemy' ist eine spannende Fusion von Viviane Sassens Fotografien und philosophischen Gedanken von Emanuele Coccia, zwei Schlüsselfiguren in ihren jeweiligen Bereichen. Sassen steuert 80 neue Foto-Arbeiten bei, die die Welt der Natur zelebrieren, während Coccia einen bahnbrechenden Essay über die Natur der Wesen präsentiert, der elegant mit den Bildern verwoben ist. 'Modern Alchemy' stellt die beiden Ströme der Kreativität in einen Dialog und zeigt eine Verbindung von Kunst und Natur. Das meditative Fotobuch ist aufwendig in bedrucktem Stoff gebunden und lädt den Leser ein, sich die allgegenwärtige Schönheit der Erde neu vorzustellen.
'Maybe we should think of our bodies with alchemy in mind, and imagine many other compositions or assemblages. Maybe we should put an arm and a hand between the legs of a woman’s body or substitute a head with two amphoras – maybe we should feel and apprehend our body as a senseless collage of disparate pieces and tools,' so Coccia in seinem Essay. 'Alchemy is the attempt to build a world in which everything is the mind and the hand of something other. A world where everything breathes and yearns in unison'.
Emanuele Coccia, geboren 1976, ist Professor für Philosophiegeschichte an der École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. 2018 erschien sein preisgekröntes Buch 'Die Wurzeln der Welt' auf Deutsch, 2020 folgte 'Sinnenleben' und 2021 'Metamorphosen. Das Leben hat viele Formen'.
Viviane Sassen, geboren 1972, ist eine niederländische Künstlerin, die in Amsterdam lebt und sowohl in der Mode- als auch in der Kunstwelt arbeitet. Sie ist bekannt für die Verwendung geometrischer Formen, oft Abstraktionen von Körpern.
