Photographer Peter LINDEMANN travelled to the legendary Nürburgring racecourse to shoot a free report on the racing events from a close distance.
The Nürburgring is located in the beautiful and remote Eifel region of Germany and was inaugurated on 18 June 1927. The original ‘mountain, racing and test course’ was about 28 km long and fully functional until 1982.
The Grand Prix course can be divided into the sprint circuit (short version) and Müllenbach circuit (southern part of the course). The total length of the Nürburgring makes it the longest permanent racecourse in the world.
In line with the 2-year Nürburgring 2009 project, a large leisure centre with a roller coaster, shopping centre, pubs, hotels and a holiday village in close proximity to the racetrack began construction in 2007 – an economic fiasco that had an impact on high politics.
Karl-Heinz Steinkühler, spokesman of the operating company Nürburgring Automotive GmbH (NAG) told Allgemeinen Zeitung: ‘there won’t be any more Formula 1 on the Nürburgring course.’ Any talks with Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone have been terminated.
