Private individual by day and race car driver by night: Joshua MARSHALL c/o ART ACT created the hyper-realistic illustrations of the race car drivers for Hyundai featuring Taylor Hagler, Mason Filippi and Jun Sung Park. A great project as part of the 24 hours race at Nürburgring.
On 7 July 1932, a wooden board was turned into a small elephant. This marks the beginning of Alfred’s story. Since that time, he has been racing his way through constantly new adventures on four wheels with children of various generations. It was conceived and illustrated by illustrator Kristina HELDMANN c/o ART ACT. Kristina’s children's book ‘Alfred Elephant Since 1932’ has just been nominated for the German-French Youth Literature Award.
To honor this joyful occasion, we present you a few pages from the book once again, plus why it has been chosen by the jury: “On 7 July 1932, a wooden board became a rolling wooden elephant. Randomly but also deliberately to some extent, it is passed on to a younger child again and again… which is how Kristina Heldmann accompanies him in text and images on his journey from one generation of children to another.
Alfred is both a comforter and companion. He helps children learn to walk, rescues a girl who fell through the ice of a pond, and experiences his own adventures while floating down a river. In seven stories, Heldmann grants a glimpse at everyday life in Germany until 7 July 2022, when all former Alfred owners came together under the hashtag #elefantsuchtseinekinder. To do so, Heldmann depicts the typical features of the respective decades, i.e. clothing and interior design, with a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the children’s books of the 1960s – setting Alfred’s adventures in the different eras through which he passes while showing the bigger historical picture.”
The shortlist with six German and six French titles was presented on 30 June at the Institute Français Berlin. The awards ceremony will take place on 13 October as part of the European children’s and youth book fair in Saarbrücken.
The German-French Youth Literature Award is a prize for contemporary youth literature in Germany and France. It is awarded each year for extraordinary work in the area of German and French children’s and youth literature. The prize is awarded by the Foundation for German and French Cultural Cooperation and the European Children’s and Youth Book Fair.
Kristina Heldmann lives and works in Berlin. She studied visual communication at the University for Fine Art in Brunswick and has been working as a freelance illustrator in the areas of editorial, children’s books and advertising since 2000.
Fredinko c/o ART ACT has had the great pleasure of creating a 3 x 2 meter large mural for DekaBank together with Die Arche. Proceeds go to die Arche.
“💚 Up until today, 25,000 euros in proceeds have already been donated to die Arche.💜!” Eva Witt-Braedt, CEO of ART ACT.
In 1995, Pastor Bernd Siggelkow founded the children’s relief organization Die Arche as a refuge for children and to help fight the impact of poverty. There are meanwhile 31 Arche facilities, some of which are even outside of Germany.
OpenSea is the worldwide first and largest Web3 marketplace for NFTs and crypto collectibles.
A non-fungible token (or NFT) is “Cryptographically unique, indivisible, irreplaceable and verifiable token that represents a specific item, whether digital or physical, on a blockchain. NFTs may use the same technology as cryptocurrencies on the blockchain, what makes them different, though, is that they are unique and not divisible (non-fungible).
An NFT can only be acquired as a whole, and it is one of one – as opposed to, for instance, when you purchase 0.05 Ethereum. In that case, the value is the same regardless of the actual Ethereum token you acquire 5 % of.
