The exhibition ‘Whispering of Japan’ invites visitors to embark on a journey, on which Kathrin von Eye shares encounters from her travels in poetic snapshots. “For me, photography is about capturing a moment that touches me profoundly,” says the photographer. “It’s an extremely subtle nuance, a goosebump moment which cannot be reproduced. Always finding, never searching. I want to open a door for viewers with my works, invite them on a journey – the destination of which remains unknown.”

“Among the most fruitful sources of my creativity are my travels; the special colors and light I discover in different countries. While touring the world, or on my expeditions to destinations throughout Germany, I explore the transient connections between nature and urban cityscapes brought about by light.”

On her journeys and expeditions, Kathrin von Eye explores the dynamic and fragile relationship between subject and object, humans and the world we live in. Her photographs are not depictions of reality, but instead, the expression of movement in photography.

“Japan: This warm feeling that touches my heart again and again. I lived there for several years as a child. An experience which has shaped me, sparked something in me to this day. It’s this ‘Whispering’ in the silence of nature or in urban environments. In 2017, I returned to where I spent my childhood,” says Kathrin von Eye. A wonderful film was created for the project which you can watch on her website.

The exhibition is on display at co-working space & Co through 24 June, 2021. Fresh new creative-artistic network & Co, located in Berlin's Schöneberg district, gives regional visual artists the space they need to be seen and make a name for themselves by displaying their work in exhibitions. All works are available in a hand-signed and -dated limited edition.
