Two of FRANK MEYL's photo series made into the Hasselblad Masters Award semi-finals in the ‘Fine Art’ category as well as the finals of the ‘Architecture’ category. By winning the Architecture category he was lucky enough to receive the Hasselblad Master prize.

A Hasselblad H4D-60 and two wide-angle lenses, including HTS tilt-shift adapter was provided by Hasselblad for the ‘Evoke’ themed photographic production. Frank Meyl chose Las Vegas as the location for his interpretation of the evoke theme: he photographed modern commercial buildings, highly specific and exclusively from the frog perspective of looking up, in order to highlight their tremendous character and to make aspects visible, which often remain unnoticed. Frank Meyls complex compositions thus offer us a unique view of the modern architecture of Las Vegas.

The inspiration was Heinrich Hoffmann's story ‘Hans Guck-in-die-Luft’ (‘Johnny Head-in-the-Air’), which was also the basis for the corresponding video shoot. The film follows Frank on his mission to make the unseen visible, alternately from his own perspective and the perspective of the viewer.

The Hasselblad Masters anthology volume 3 Evoke by teNeues was launched in line with the Photokina in Cologne including an official award ceremony. The accompanying photo exhibition of large-format prints went from there into the world with stops in Tokyo, New York City, Los Angeles, Berlin, London and Shanghai. During the exhibition of the Hasselblad Master Winners Tour in Los Angeles, Frank held a comprehensive seminar on his working methods and his creative work in front of a large audience at Smashbox Studios.

As a grand jury member, Frank makes his contribution in the selection of the new Hasselblad Master photographers, who will be announced early this year.
