If you are interested in beauty, skincare, bodycare, make-up, wellness, hairstyles and anti-aging, Marie-Luise Wenzlawski is your woman. As the head of beauty at German COSMOPOLITAN magazine, she knows all about trends and which beauty products have cult potential.

Marie-Luise Wenzlawski’s career started at Axel Springer Verlag in Hamburg in the Beauty, Fitness & Wellness department. And of course GoSee wanted to know how this came about: ‘I grew up with hair & make-up, as my grandparents had a hairdressing salon, which my parents took over and their biggest wish was that I would follow in their footsteps. But I quickly realised I wanted to work in journalism instead. Via internships I ended up as an editor at Alex Springer publishing house in Hamburg.’

What were your most influential experiences? Where could our readers recognize your signature style from? Her reply: ‘I worked as a department leader at ALLEGRA for five years. I was really able to let my creativity and imagination run wild while I was there. After the magazine folded I went to Condé Nast in Munich, worked as part of the development team for MYSELF and led the beauty department there for eight years. For the past year I have been working in the same position for COSMOPOLITAN and deal with anything to do with cosmetics, fitness and nutrition.’

What do you like about it? ‘Almost everything to do with beauty is sensual and evokes positive associations. Hair textures, beautiful perfume bottles, skin in soft lighting or artificial make-up. It’s always fun and a great challenge to visually translate beauty content, especially if you get to work with international hair & make-up artists and beauty photographers.’

Will UPDATE14 and her job as a judge be a challenge for Marie-Luise Wenzlawski? ‘Of course, new visual ideas are always exciting, the visual language of beauty is such a broad field and I’m always surprised by how photographers and stylists interpret the themes. Being a judge will be a welcome change and I very much look forward to it already!’

And we are also looking forward to her expert support in the BEAUTY / HAIR / MAKE-UP category.
