A crisis is looming in the industry. Photography is not worth anything anymore; illustration is still not appreciated enough. Post production is also struggling, budgets are getting tighter, and the competition is getting bigger and bigger every day. The same old song and dance for years. The last word is usually: Digital has changed everything. But the sound film did too, or the washing machine, and the cell phone. So what’s our point? It has, perhaps, never really been any different – whenever there wasn’t a technological quantum leap, people complained about insider deals and bribery. Particularly in our industry where subtleties and details are so utterly important. Let’s face it – life is constantly under construction. You finally want your peace and quiet – then count us out. We want to live, experience, feel, learn, and see new things. We look forward to UPDATE!8BERLIN, to new artwork, new stories, to artists and art producers we have never heard of as well as trusted, loyal exhibitors from all corners of the globe – who make this event possible.
We are especially delighted about the high density of high-end art producers now from all over Europe. And we gladly quote Kristina Wilmar, H&M home, who knows what she is looking for at UPDATE!8BERLIN: “I’m looking for great photographers internationally. But then only interiors. And I’m looking for great production companies and location scouts.” Or also our friend Maud Klarenbeek/Wieden & Kennedy: “UPDATE is one of the highlights of my year!”
