Daan Brand, who has been working as a freelance photographer now for eleven years, is a new entry at GoSee. His work can be recognised through its dynamic, bold, colourful and often humorous approach. This is no wonder since he's been trained as an illustrator and fine artist. The creative talent tells GoSee, "the inspiration for my work can be found in things as comics, absurdism and action movies, influences that are quite evident".
It comes as no great surprise then that Daan’s portfolio caught the eye of the jury at the SCREENings Awards 2013 and secured his winning position with his unconventional, creative artwork. A piece from his ‘A Hum’ naked calendar project exhibition featured in the exhibition at the Ritz Carlton Berlin as well as in Lürzer's magazine. Though that one has already been snapped up, more can be viewed on his website. Pirelli can wrap up warm…
The 'Balts 2.0' exhibition, which presents objects related to the same subject, was met with great acclaim. It was on display in a boutique gallery in Groningen, Netherlands. Daan was asked to include his work in the group show. "It was a lot of fun to work for a longer period on a series. It was a surrealistic take on the iconography of the hand."
We have also attached Daan’s photographic homage to L'OFFICIEL Netherlands fifth birthday, as well as the OEROL FESTIVAL 2013 image campaign. During this festival Terschelling island is full of theatre pieces, music and street theatre. Oerol Festival attracts around 50,000 visitors each year.
In his current project, ‘The Others’, Daan presents his fascination with the surreal in combination with illustration.
Clients such as NIKE, ADIDAS and PHILIPS also love Daan’s visual approach. Dutch ELLE also regularly publishes his rather unusual series. MIRABEAU, the Netherlands’ biggest online design bureau, launched his campaign at the end of the month. A quick look at Daan’s portfolio is enough to assure every GoSee reader that the results wouldn’t be boring corporate photography. Bransch has represented the photographer since the start of 2014.
